At Splendor, Earth Day holds a special place in our hearts—not just as a date, but as a reminder that even small actions can add up to meaningful change.
In 2019, we felt the urge to do something—something tangible to take care of the place where we live and work: Red Bank, NJ. So, we rolled up our sleeves, grabbed some trash bags, and took to the streets. That simple act turned into Pick It Up!, our ongoing effort to help keep our community a little cleaner.
No grand gestures. No headlines. Just a small group doing what we can.
A Year-Round Mindset
Of course, Earth Day is a great occasion to rally together, but we’ve found that the real impact comes from showing up regularly. Once a month, our team spends an hour or two walking around Red Bank, picking up litter and cleaning up the spaces we all share.
It’s not always glamorous. Sometimes it feels like we’re not even making a dent. But every piece of trash we collect is one less polluting our streets, waterways, or ecosystems. And that’s worth it.
Why We Do It
We know we’re just one small business, but we do believe that businesses – big and small – can be part of the solution. Whether it’s through efforts like Pick It Up!, sourcing more sustainable materials, or working with vendors who share similar values, we’re trying to do our part.
And like most things that matter, it’s a work in progress. We’re always learning, always trying to do better.
Your Town Could Use a PickItUp!
And we’d love to have you.
If you’ve ever felt the pull to do something similar, we can honestly say – it doesn’t take much to get started. Here are a few ideas we’ve found helpful:
- Start or Join a PickItUp! Group: Even a small cleanup crew can make an impact on your block, your street, your park. Go to https://pickitup.eco/find-a-clean-up/
- Make It Social: Turn it into a monthly team event. It’s a great way to get outside, spend time together, and feel good about the effort.
- Look at Your Own Footprint: Ask simple questions—Can we print less? Use recycled materials? Choose greener suppliers? Small shifts matter.
- Share the Idea: You never know who might be inspired to join in or start something similar.
Every Effort Counts
At the end of the day, we’re none of us perfect. But we’ve found that doing something feels better than doing nothing. And together, those small steps can lead to real change.
This Earth Day, we hit the streets again with our garbage bags in hand. And it was fun!
And maybe that’s the best place to start.
